AIIC stands for the International Association of Conference Interpreters and is the only true international body of its kind. AIIC, which is based in Geneva, was created in 1953 in an effort to set and maintain the highest degree of accuracy and reliability of interpreters. AIIC, which now has over 2900 members in 97 countries, has the full recognition of the European Community, NATO, Interpol, the World Bank, United Nations and most other major international organizations.

All members of AIIC have achieved the very highest professional standards in satisfying an examining body of their fluency in several languages and, equally important, of having a deep knowledge and understanding of their culture. Before a member is accepted into AIIC, he or she must be sponsored by at least five existing members.
